Match the job to the problem

Most home lock calls come down to one of five situations. The job is different in each one, and so is the price.

  • You cannot get in: a house lockout.
  • You do not know who has a key: rekey the locks you already have.
  • A lock sticks, wobbles or is broken: repair it, or replace it.
  • You want to stop handing out keys: a keypad or smart lock.
  • A mailbox key is lost or the lock is broken: a mailbox lock repair or replacement, once we know who owns the box.
Rekey, repair or replace

Rekey, repair or replace?

Rekeying changes the pins inside a lock so the old keys stop working; the hardware stays on the door. Repair fixes a lock that is worn or out of adjustment. Replacement is for hardware that is damaged, too light for the door it is on, or simply not what you want any more.

Check the door as well as the lock. A latch that only catches when you lift or push the door is often an alignment or strike-plate problem rather than a bad lock.

Just moved in? Start by rekeying. Previous owners, builders, contractors and neighbors may still have keys.

Lockouts

Locked out of your house

Emergency callouts run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We open the door for the people entitled to be inside, so expect to show ID with the address, or other proof that you can authorize entry.

The type of lock and its condition decide how the door is opened. Once you are in, we tell you whether the lock needs any attention.

Keyless entry

Keypad and smart locks

A keypad deadbolt lets each person use their own code, and you can delete a code without changing any keys. A connected smart lock adds an app; features like remote access depend on the lock and your home network.

Check the door before choosing a model: the hole size, the backset, the door thickness, and whether the deadbolt slides freely. Pick one with a backup way in, such as a key cylinder, for when the batteries run down.

Mailbox locks

Mailbox locks: check who owns the box first

A mailbox on your own post or wall is usually yours to repair. A compartment in a cluster box belongs to the Postal Service or to the builder, HOA or property manager, and the owner decides who changes its lock. We work on mailbox locks the box owner has authorized us to change.

I had to use this locksmith on Monday, which happened to be a holiday, and I couldn’t have been more impressed with the service! They responded incredibly quickly, were very professional and friendly, and had the job taken care of fast. Their customer service was excellent, especially considering it was a holiday. I really appreciated how easy and stress-free they made the whole situation. I would definitely recommend them to anyone needing a reliable and responsive locksmith!

Needed the house rekeyed this morning after an old roommate moved out and I didn't trust that every copy came back. Diamondback Lock and Key made it quick and easy, in and out in under an hour for four locks.

One of our front door locks failed completely on a Friday afternoon. Customers still coming in, employees trying to leave for the weekend. Not a good situation. If your business is in Chandler and you need commercial lock work done fast, Diamondback Lock and Key is who you want. Been in this building almost 14 years and dealt with a few locksmiths over that time. Nobody moved this quick. They had someone out before I even had time to start stressing about it. The tech knew exactly what he was looking at. Didn't try to sell me a full replacement when a repair was the right call. That matters when you're standing there watching the clock. Everything was solid by the time he left and we didn't lose more than an hour of business. For a commercial property owner thats everything.

Louis was amazing. I was dealing with an “incorrect key ID” error and a car that wouldn’t start. After programming the key, he wasn’t satisfied when the problem came back and strongly suggested I have the battery tested again. He was right. It turned out I had both a key issue and a failing battery. What stood out most was his customer service. I was stressed, overwhelmed, and having a rough day, and he treated me with kindness, patience, and a great attitude. He genuinely cared about solving the problem instead of just completing the job. Highly recommend!

Great service! They solved my problem the same day and sent a great guy who took only 30 minutes to cut and program my car key. I will recommend them anytime and will call them again for future projects.

Never used them before but Luis came out last week and got our business locks working again and I was so relieved it didn't take all day.

Our back door at the shop was a nightmare. You'd push it shut and it just wouldn't catch unless you basically kicked it into place. Eran from Diamondback Lock and Key in Chandler came out, took one look at it, and said the mechanism was dry. He hit it with graphite spray and the door closed smooth on the first try. Charged us a reasonable amount for the visit. Wish I'd called sooner.

FAQ

Common questions

If yours is not here, call and ask — (602) 388-1201.

Should I rekey or replace my locks after moving in?

Rekey, unless a lock is worn, damaged or the wrong hardware for the door.

Rekeying keeps your hardware and makes every old key useless. Replace only the locks that stick, wobble or that you want to upgrade.

Can all my doors use one key?

Yes, if the locks share a compatible keyway.

Kwikset and Schlage use different keyways, so a mixed set may need a cylinder or a lock changed first.

Do you open the door if I am locked out?

Yes. Emergency callouts run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

We ask for proof that you live there or can authorize entry, such as ID with the address. If your ID is inside, we check it once the door is open.

Can you change the lock on my community mailbox?

Only with the box owner’s authorization.

Postal Service-owned cluster boxes are handled by the post office; privately owned ones by the builder, HOA or property manager.

What warranty do you provide?

One month full warranty, and after that, a year warranty through the manufacturer, just for the parts.
